The Arts provide students with a range of skills transferable to a variety of vocational and future pathways. In a knowledge-based economy, the world requires workers who are innovative thinkers, adept communicators and excellent team players. The collaborative nature of Drama, Media, Music and Dance as art forms provide students with opportunities to learn and to manage the interpersonal and intrapersonal skills required to work effectively, both individually and in groups.
At Dakabin we offer Dance, Drama and Music from year 9 to year 12. Film and Media Studies is offered in year 10, then Film, Television and New Media in years 11 and 12. All Performing Arts subjects in the senior phase of learning contribute towards an OP and offer challenging, yet creative ways to explore the world. In year 8 all students will study Performing Arts for one semester.
Dance Squad
Dakabin Dance Squad run lunchtime and after school rehearsals to prepare students for a number of Dance Showcases and Competitions throughout the year. Students also perform at school events including Celebration Parades, Arts Showcase and Awards Night.
Dance Squad students develop team and performance skills while building strong relationships across Year 7 -12 students.

Instrumental Music Program
Dakabin's Instrumental Music Program encompasses orchestral strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Students participate in a weekly group lesson during school time with a qualified Instrumental Music teacher and students are encouraged to join the Stage and Concert Bands.
Students will enhance their performance skills through playing at school events, competitions and have the opportunity to participate in external workshops.
School Musicals and Wakakirri
School musical productions take place on a biannual basis and on alternate years students can participate in the Wakakirri Story-Dance Festival, Australia's largest performing arts event for schools.
Students audition for acting, dancing and singing roles, as well as instrumental music parts where relevant. Stage and tech crew positions are also available for students who prefer to stay out of the spotlight.
Theatre Sports
TheatreSports is a series of timed Drama games which place a focus on the idea of 'offers'. An offer is where a performer suggests something which could happen in a scene. The offer can be either accepted by a team mate (in which case the scene will advance) or be blocked (in which case the scene is effectively killed). The ideal situation for a TheatreSports game is for offers to be accepted and built upon so as the scene is constantly developing and growing.
TheatreSports runs after school on Monday 2:40pm-4pm. Please see Sarah Roberts, Performing Arts HOD in B Block for a permission slip if you are interested in joining.
