The student wellbeing team consists of the following support services:
Guidance Officers
You can talk to the Guidance Officers about problems at home, school or with friends; also issues that are stopping you from being successful at school. They are there to assist with career planning and subject selection. Guidance Officers work with students, families and teachers to provide support.
School Based Youth Support 
The SBYSO works with students who are experiencing challenges at home or at school. Some main areas the SBYSO’s focus on are: individual work, linking to outside agencies and making referrals, lunchtime activities, group programs, providing financial support, breakfast program, working with families/ home visits, attending school events etc.
School Chaplain
Our school chaplain is employed by Scripture Union and is available on campus every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The chaplain's role is to support the entire school community with any social, emotional, and spiritual needs, regardless of religion or belief. They provide a safe and welcoming space for students, staff, and families, offering care, connection, and encouragement.
Each week, the chaplain hosts a Chappy Pancake Breakfast, creating a fun and inclusive opportunity for students to connect. They also run a Bible Study group, open to anyone interested in exploring faith and building community.
Community Education Counsellor

The role of the Community Education Counsellor (CEC) is to provide educational counselling and support services within schools to ensure that the best possible assistance
services are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, students, families and communities. CECs also provide cross cultural awareness training to the broader school community.
School Based Youth Health Nurse 
Students can speak with the nurse confidentially about health issues which that they are worried about. Some of the things students see the school nurse about are relationships, sexual health, feelings of sadness, worries or being angry, growth & development, healthy eating & exercise, personal or family problems and smoking, alcohol & other drugs.
Broncos Academy
Delivered by school-based staff from the Brisbane Broncos, this initiative provides in-school mentoring and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls. The program is designed to empower students to reach their full potential through regular engagement, cultural connection, and personalised guidance.
Student Wellbeing Professional (SWP)
Our Student Wellbeing Professional works collaboratively as part of schools' established student support and leadership teams, contributing to schools' whole-school approach to supporting students' wellbeing and mental health. SWP supports student's mild to moderate mental health concerns, including referral for students and families to external agencies where appropriate.
UQ Psychology Clinic
Provisional psychologists from the University of Queensland Psychology Clinic offer outreach services at Dakabin State High School. They provide short to medium-term therapy and can assist with issues such as anxiety, depression, behavioural problems, sleep issues, chronic pain, grief and loss, caregiving issues, relationship difficulties, significant life transitions, managing health-related behaviours, stress, and developing positive wellbeing behaviours. Their services are accessed through Guidance Officers who coordinate the referral process.
