Youth Support Coordinators are workers who have been employed to work within high schools in the Sunshine Coast South Education District to help prevent students between the ages of 15 and 17 from disengaging from educational, vocational or training processes due to social or emotional issues.  These workers are employed by community agencies within the district.  Youth Support workers have been allocated to your child’s school and is able to assist them in the following ways:
  1. Transport young person to appointments that may be made for him/her
  2. Assist young person through referring them to alternative educational, vocational and/or training resources and support them through this process
  3. Provide direct support to young person by assisting them with welfare or social, emotional, needs
  4. Explore and address issues in the young person’s life which are preventing them from successfully transitioning into employment or further schooling and develop a plan to address these issues
  5. Support the young person within the context of their family.
A Confidential Personal Information Agreement will be signed by each young person. The Youth Support workers will be in constant contact with the school in relation to your son/daughter’s progress.  They will provide feedback in relation to you child’s progress to either Deputy Principals or Principals (or chosen representative of the Principal).
