Students studying an Agricultural subject at Dakabin are able to be involved in the following extracurricular activities:

  • Stud cattle show team (Established 1991)

 The students train and show cattle for other cattle studs, as well as breeding, training and exhibiting our own cattle. These include:

·        Sahiwal Stud (est. 1991)

·        Square Meater Stud (est. 2001)

·        Lowline Stud (est. 2003)

Students train before school and at lunchtimes and attend shows on the weekends.


  • Stud sheep show team (Established 1995)

The school has been successfully breeding and showing Suffolk sheep. Students train at lunchtimes and attend shows on the weekends.

In 2013 they won Supreme Suffolk Ram at Marburg Show and Supreme Suffolk Ewe at Rocklea Show.


  • Poultry Showing

Students are breeding preparing purebred show birds under the guidance of an experienced poultry breeder and judge. Students will be showing their Fizzles at this year’s Royal Brisbane Sow.


  • Sunflower Trail – University of Queensland

Student design an experiment where they plant and grow sunflower starting in February each year and then compare their flowers and are judged on their assignments in May at the UQ Campus Gatton.


  • Poultry Trail – World Poultry Organization

Students design and complete a poultry trail with layer hens each competing against high schools in South East Queensland each year.


  • Bee Keeping

Dakabin has several hives that the students rob during the year producing quality honey that is sold around the school by the students.

  • Small Animal Nurseries

Students and Year 11 and 12 Certificate I and II Animal Studies and Year 9 Small Animal Studies run several animal nurseries each year at local primary schools and community festivals. These are run mainly on the weekends.


  • Promotional Activities


Each year the staff and students set up displays at various local evens to show case Dakabin SHS and the Agricultural Department to the community.

External Agricultural Programs available:  

  • A FEAST of Science  a 5 day residential program run annually June – July holidays at University of Queensland annually.


  • TASTE –The Agricultural Skills & Technology Experience Colleges 5 day residential Emerald and Longreach Agricultural Campus’s June - July and September holidays.
